Princess Marie Lavigne is to receive a vampire slave on her seventeenth birthday. Her father introduces her to him. She finds him attractive the minute she sees him but he does not return the look. Her father notices the look on her face and hits her for it, looking at her with hatred. The vampire stands there, a bit amused. Her father tells her not to think of him, for she will be wed to the king of Spain. The man she hates and her father knows it. With that she runs into a forest, not even bothering to look where she is going. Hours later, she ran into some bushes and trips over a tree root, hitting her. She wakes to find a two men arguing. She does not even know who she is.
