Based on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. My interpretation of what happened to the partner after the hero's disappearance and before their return. 

I'm using the names of my hero and partner here, but I keep their species ambiguous. 

Just a bit of a warning, I'm delving into issues with anxiety and depression. If that's a trigger to you in anyway, well, you have been warned. I only touch upon briefly, so don't worry too much.

Partially inspired by a Periphery song of the same name. The meaning behind the song is being unable to let go of the past, so I thought it would be appropriate for this story.

The story is set two years after our protagonists ran away from the crumbling building. Borderline depressed, empty, and disconnected, Valen ceased all forms of battling due to a newfound fear for violence and took up a corporate job. Unfortunately, that was not all she stood to lose as a mysterious power affected the Pokemon Centres and Pokeballs to enforce permadeaths. It is as it was foretold: the curtains will not close until a hero is no more.
