For the first time in sixteen year-old Lilou's life, born addicted to heroin isn't the reason she can't concentrate on her schoolwork.

Of all the places Lilou has endured during her parent's missionary work, Botswana is the absolute worst. The Philippines had television. Turkey, where she'd been adopted, had a McDonalds. Chicken nuggets. Lilou desperately missed chicken nuggets. And Ranch.

Botswana's only redeeming factor, and admittedly it's pretty redeeming, is Jonah Parish. Jonah isn't just a boy. Jonah is her cure. Lilou's coping strategies for her ADHD stopped working as the demand level of her course work increased. Her grades fell. Meetings were held. Medication was discussed. Thankfully, Jonah intervened.

She didn't need medication when she had Jonah's dark brown eyes, and Clark Kent glasses to keep her brain occupied. If only she could convince him to keep every part of her anatomy occupied. And there was the problem with her entire scheme to graduate, and seduce Jonah in the process.

Jonah is older. Two years. Totally not a big deal. Except, Jonah's mother is the head master of the village school, and his father, a minister. Not the cool, hipster, it's-okay-to-wear-flip-flops-in-the-sanctuary-hut kind of minister, either. Jonah isn't allowed to do anything except pray, and study. In that order. Even though Lilou hasn't witnessed him do either, is irrelevant. At the end of the year, he'll be graduating, and going to a University a world away. Lilou will be alone. Alone she will surely fail.

Lilou has eight months to find a way into Jonah's heart, and out of her own head if she wants to ever escape Botswana. She has to escape Botswana. For the love of chicken nuggets she has to escape Botswana.

A reflection. Do you like yours, love yours or hate yours? There's many people in this world who dislike theirs, not because of the physicality that they see in a mirror, but because they know what's lurking behind the eyes that stare. So much can be seen in yourself from your own pair of eyes, things that others don't seem to see. Do you know why that is? That's because no one knows you better than you know yourself. A pair of eyes could seem so kind, warm and innocent to the world, but only yourself could know the true darkness behind them. There's one person in this world who knows exactly what I'm talking about. He knows the infuriating, angering feeling of the painful suffering he experiences when his own eyes meet his reflection's. Deadly, severe, menacing: is what he sees. Everyone who looks into them simply see a bright pair of ocean eyes. Blue. That's all they see. But only himself knows he's drowning in the tidal waves of their deep ocean. And no one cares enough to notice, to help, or to save. Until her. She used to think fire was more murderous than ice. Little did she know, that would all change at first glance. She saw the eyes, she noticed their blue, she stared for a second too long, and now she knows that there's no going back. He'll claim her. ~If I take a step away from him, he takes a step closer to me. If I run, he'll find his way back.~ ~I'm trying my goddamned hardest to not act on the ache I'm feeling to place my lips on hers, just to have a little taste, because I don't want to appear as some sex-driven teenage boy who just wants to claim her body. Because I don't. I want to claim her heart.~ *Mature content: Strong language, aggressive behaviour, sexual content etc.* Note: Don't skip past the prologue. A bit of the dialogue or description in the first half of the book may seem slightly immature; I'll have to edit that when I get the chance. Started: 31/08/18 Completed: 02/04/19

~Her words were my poison. I used them to consume myself. Disturbingly honest. Painfully strained. Carefully penned down. Dangerously addictive.~ A journal that landed in the right hands and told a whole story with words, no lips could speak. Two people bound by the pages of a book that tore their souls apart. He found it lying around and wondered what could go wrong. He didn't recognise the handwriting but he knew he instantly fell in love with it. Then it began. The assault of words on his life. He couldn't believe a word she wrote but somehow he did. He knew more about her than anyone else but he knew so little about who she was... It was maddening. How someone could have such an impact on you without having a single conversation with you. Her precious words tortured his existence, they drowned him in misery, created a black hole of words around him, gave him everything he needed to live. Made him fall in love. Gave him a world of his own. Made him believe in rainbows, unicorns, coffee, the basis of happiness, the meaning of every sunrise, the mystery of every deep ocean, she made him human. He knew he had to find her. He had to find out who she was. He had given him all the clues he needed but none of them were enough to prepare him for who she was. But sometimes... The journey is more important than the destination. Sometimes, the journey is the destination. A book full of stolen pages and a boy full of curiosity. This was how he let her shape his story. __________________ Description inside. Italics = Journal entry. 500 word chapters. Okay, so I don't know if you want to read it yet but it would mean the world to me if you could give it a shot.

"So your go!" She said, smiling up at me brightly. "Wait what?" I answered with a look of confusion playing upon my face. "Well I just poured my heart out to you..." Fran said cheekily with a wink. "Now it's your go, come 'on Beadle, out with it!" She said raising her eyebrows at me. "Well what do you want me to say?" I asked blankly. "Tell me why you sleep around and then break girls' hearts." She gave me a reassuring smile and I felt more at ease. "Well it's pretty simple really." I said, pausing dramatically. "I break girl's hearts so that they can't break mine first." "What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie?" Instantly, Sawyer frowns, an unimpressed expression on his face. I continue to smile at him, urging him to ask as I grab his shoulders and shake him, "C'mon, Sawyer, you gotta ask!! What do you call a fish wearing a bowtie??" He shakes his head, turning away from me as he presses his tongue to inside of his mouth. Flatly, he states, rubbing his face, "We're not doing this shit, Mari." "Yes we are!!!" I snort loudly as he scowls at me. Poking his shoulder, I ask, "You ready?!!" "No." "I'm gonna say it." "No, you're not-" "SoFISHticated." "You're a fucking idiot." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Lengthy Chapters!!* Marianne Parker and Sawyer Cortez are complete opposites of each other. The total definition of a raincloud. But, when Sawyer meets Marianne, it becomes all too clear that there's something about her he can't ignore. From the way she walks, talks, laughs, and smiles.
