It is 1939, the great World War 2 has begun. Margaret Anselm is a German 17-year-old girl living in the streets of Berlin with her brother, Dirk, and her mother and father. As the war begins and the German Nazis take over, Dirk and his father are taken away to fight in the battlefield, Margaret and her mother stick together and try weld the house with the hole of the two boys gone. But soon after, there is an incident with Anneliese, Margaret's mother.
