Selkies are the seal people of Scottish legend. They can shed their seal skin and become human, or keep it on and remain a seal. Ronan, a selkie himself, is in love with a girl on land, Maggie. But he can't stay with her; he will die. Maggie cannot go into the ocean with him; she will drown. And when Maggie's drunk and destructive "boyfriend" comes into the mix, life becomes about keeping Ronan alive, and keeping Maggie away from the dangers that now plague her. This isn't PG-13 yet! Yay! But I'm warning you, there's some unsavoury language in there.

When a man steals a selkie woman's pelt, she is trapped on land with him in human form, separated from the sea and her selkie family. She fights him at first. But, as the years pass, the lack of her pelt and the loneliness slowly drain the life out of her. And she soon starts getting desperate, drowning in despair and willing to do anything to escape... Will she find her pelt and get back to the sea and her family? Will she give in to her kidnapper and make a life on land? Or will she perish, imprisoned forever by her captor? And how far will she go to regain her freedom? Trigger Warnings: Mentions of drowning, kidnapping, unwanted children, abandonment, and depressive and suicidal thoughts.
