After becoming pregnant at the age of 16 from rape, Olivia Harper struggles with her inner demons several years later. Her best friend, Adam Lettiere, has been there for her since the night she was raped. After giving birth to her daughter and placing her for adoption, Olivia discovers that she really loves Adam and wants to be with him.
Eight years later, Olivia and Adam are still best friends and go out one night to catch up. Adam shares with Olivia he is leaving for Navy boot camp and promises even though he is gone, he will always be there for her just as he has for the last eight years.
Upon returning from boot camp, Olivia and Adam decide to become engaged. Both families and their friends completely support the relationship, except for Olivia's ex, Jake, who raped her eight years ago. He is unaware of the relationship between Adam and Olivia, and also of the child being placed for adoption.
