Maxon looked like an angel. His golden hair was slicked back, and his tight tuxedo defined his strong arms.

He looked over at me and winked. Heat crept up my cheeks as I averted my eyes and focused on the wine in front of me. As I took a sip, the world sort of faded, and there was Maxon, standing tall. Right in front of me, with a bright smile overtaking his face.

He put a hand on my shoulder and guided me to the dance floor. It was empty. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an orchestra appeared and started playing the slowest music I had ever heard. He put a hand on my waist as I looped my arms around his neck. We swayed to the music for a moment before he dipped his head downwards and tilted my chin. I closed my eyes, anticipating the sweet kiss that would soon be on my lips. We were getting closer,

and closer,

and closer. . .

Suddenly, the arms around my waist disappeared. I opened my eyes, only to see the orchestra gone and America playing the violin instead. Maxon was right in front of her, with an adoring smile on his face. She stopped playing, and pulled Maxon down for the kiss that I lost.

I screamed.

The Selection Fan Fiction "I, Clarissa Dossen, will never be free from the cage of other people's choices." Clarissa Dossen is a 17 year old girl sent to The Fraussen Prestige Institute, a boarding school for the rich and famous kids of Sarroine. Her mom has devoted herself to a lifestyle of the utmost leisure and fame; Clarissa's dad, however, is down to earth and kind. In her young country, Sarroine, everyone is labeled. The Prestige are rich and famous, with the Royalty slightly above. The Elite have the wealth of a prestige, but not the fame, and the Modest barely make ends meet. But greatly looked down upon are the Unlabeled. They are such a disgrace to the country that they are ignored. Clarissa believes that these boundaries shouldn't be in place, and when put in a powerful position, she struggles between loyalty to her family and loyalty to her beliefs. What happens when Clarissa realizes she has been selected for a competition she doesn't want to be in? Will she ever want to be a contender in The Selection? Will Prince Alexander win her heart? Labeled follows Clarissa through a tumultuous and romantic journey of self-discovery and development with all the beauty and pomp of the original Selection. Her world is called Sarrione, which is what King Maxon and Queen America re-named the country after dismantling the caste system which their son hastily put back into place through the Labels. They are the current Prince's grandparents. *the idea of the Selection, inspiration for the plot, and the characters of Queen America and King Maxon are not original, all credit goes to Kiera Cass. Upon her laughing at my struggle, a smile naturally creeps onto my face. "Sorry. What I mean to say is I would like for you to come with me. If you come, you could finally know what my job is." She grins widely. "Because you are not a mechanic, but you won't tell what your real job is." "Exactly, but if you come..." She presses her lips together and then pouts slightly. "I can't." My smile drops. "I'm sorry, Max, my flight leaves Thursday morning." Disappointed, I shrug in an attempt to play it casual. "It's okay," I say softly, and she scrunches her nose at the pet name. "But tell me the truth, would you have come if you were staying longer?" She smiles widely and I mimic her. "Depends, would you continue acting like an asshole?" I chuckle. I know she will never let that go, and weirdly it brings me joy because that means that she will never forget the day we met. And I don't want her to forget it because it is forged forever in my mind. I am bound by that day, but if I am bound, she should be too. I want us to be bound forever by that day. "Maybe. Depends if you will text me this time." "Then maybe." With a grin on my face, I reply, "Maybe is good enough for now." A lie. Truly, maybe is not enough, but I will wait for her forever if it is necessary. I barely know her, but I want her to like me at least a portion of how much I like her because her mere presence makes me happy, and I believe I have the same effect on her. ------------------------------- Two pressured souls to succeed, longing for love. Max Verstappen, a seemingly ruthless driver, finds himself drawn to Vanessa Teixeiro, the sweetest soul with many secrets he is eager to unravel. Two sides of the same coin collide and can't seem to escape the other. Vanessa knows she should keep her distance from him, as he is too tempting for her, especially at the wrong time. However, Max is determined to keep crossing paths with her. He has fallen for her, but will she fall for him too?
