You know those stories in which the parents of the main character have a busy job and never come home. And those kids get to do whatever they want because their parents won't know.
Well Chleo Mathews's live is the exact opposite. Her parents are home all day and night. All they do is just watch TV and eat pizza. They're like just graduated 20 year olds, who get money from their parents to stay alive. Not that her parents have always been this way, in fact, they had really successful jobs .......... before she was born. And they make sure she doesn't forget about the fact, that she was the mistake that had ruïned their lives. No matter what Chleo still loves her parents though, they don't love her. But energy bills are piling up and they're running out of money. Her parents earlier jobs had raised a lot of money, but money, no matter how much it is, runs out once.
So Chleo is forced to find a job. And Chleo who is not really a social person and lives in her own world she calls her Bubble, is not really fond of that. And at school, she is seen as the poor kid who can't afford new clothes. Ofcouse nobody knows about her parents. And if people find out she has to get a job, it will only become worse. Finally, she finds a job at an old bookstore. Not that she minds because, she is a pretty fanatic reader. Actually books cover a lot of space in her Bubble. She's pould under the supervision of Lucas Rush. Funny, that's the exact same name as the most popular guy in her school. But he couldn't possibly be reading books.
Or working in a bookstore.
