"The first thing I did was ask a small jury of local fishermen, down at the market, what they thought the explanation for the suspicious activity was. They said ancient evil. They weren't joking."
    
    With barely a moment's notice, a police investigator and his intern Ryn Cardinal are shipped off to Claremont Harbor, a small seaside town, to look into a series of mysterious disappearances. The locals, a superstitious bunch, are convinced that it's a reawakening of some ancient evil, but Ryn knows better. That kind of crap isn't real, is it?
    Is it?
    With help from the sheriff, a cat, and a boy from a bookstore (and absolutely no help from Dan Crosby, her useless boss), Ryn is gonna get to the bottom of this.
