Ryan and Brendon have been best friends for years and they go to the same college, living in the same dorm. They've both had feelings for one another but hasn't acted on them. None of them are aware of this. One day Ryan tells Brendon how he feels and Brendon reacts badly, storming out and keeping himself away from Ryan as much as he can till he's forced to see him again. Brendon's afraid of his own feelings and that's why he won't tell Ryan how he feels until that day.
