Not every fairytale gets a happy ending. Cassan O'Brian, normal teenage boy, is going through a lot in his life right now - dealing with his crazy friends, enjoying the summer in his smaller-than-a-pebble town, and oh yeah - getting over his twin brother's dissappearance. Aiden, Cassan's twin brother, has been missing for three months now, with no traces and absolutely no hope of return. But when one clue, in the form of a homeless girl getting over a drug addiction, presents itself to Cassan, his boring summer turns into the adventure of his life. With his friends and the girl, they visit Underlend, where Aiden is supposedly kept. There, he meets the storybook Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, Mouse, and the Cheshire Cat. Ironically, they seem to know him, but he doesn't know them. They also have a job for him, one he isn't sure he can do in a world where up is down and animals speaking are more common than people. He is told he must defeat the Queen of Hearts if he is to go home, otherwise he can never leave. Alice wonders if he can really do it.
