I would like to be cliche and start this synopsis with 'Jaime was a perfectly normal high school senior...' but he's not. Jaime actually has super powers. Jaime also has a female best friend who he is not, in any way, romantically interested in. In fact, Jaime isn't romantically interested in anyone. He's kind of a jerk. He doesn't really like people.
And then he finds out that he really doesn't like people as he is all but forced to leave his home to keep his ordinary mother safe from an enemy he didn't even know he had until his father showed up early for his birthday. There's nothing like the message: Surprise! There's people who would like you dead and/or kidnapped.

For an S tier like Alex death is hardly permanent, but he comes back to a very changed world. One that both has moved on from him and still feels the scars from the aftermath of his death.
