If you haven't seen insidious this is the gist, the further is pretty much a void filled with the spirits of the dead, Dalton, who is the main character can travel into the further because he is an accomplished "traveler" which means his spiritual self can leave his body while he is sleeping (also known as astro-projecting). If your spirit wanders too far it can become lost. In my fan fiction Kendra shares the same ability.
Anyway,
Dalton and Kendra are trapped together in the further, their adventurous spirits cause them to meet some unwanted friends. Will they make it out of the further? Or be stuck there forever?

1 argument, 1 inter-dimensional portal sucking in the 6 main characters, and 1 enemy within the various dimensions travelled. I'm kidding. There's more than 1. This is (or should be) the mostly women main cast version. There's also a mostly men main cast version. Throughout this series, six characters develop their powers and their relationships with friends, with siblings and with romantic and sexual partners. They travel through time and to alternate dimensions both by accident due to a lack of control over their powers and intentionally due to being summoned to help save their world or a time line. The series is light and the individual novellas can be read on their own in terms of the story itself.
