A young adult novel I'm currently working on.
About a working-class geek from Liverpool being sent off to a fancy mixed boarding school after winning an academic scholarship and attempting to fit in in an environment in which everyone is judged on their wealth and status and where people with backgrounds like hers are often frowned upon. Could an unlikely friendship help her become accepted within the community and even help rid her of her personal demons?

An Unexpected Moment
... that changes everything Sarah was starting her junior year of high school. Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw a pretty average blonde haired, blue eyed, teenager. She was neither in the popular group, nor one of the many cliched outsiders. Sarah was a nobody. She liked to blend in and lay low. It was her way out of not only this town, but her house. No one knew it, but her father was a high functioning alcoholic that often took his anger out on his family. With her older sister now in college, it had turned to her more often. Laying low in general was a good strategy. Across town, Ryan was prepping for his final year in high school. While he wasn't the stereotypical quarterback of the football team, he did fit into the popular crowd. His sports of choice included basketball and soccer, either of which might line him up for a scholarship next year. Ryan had a group of close friends and a lot of adoring acquaintances. It wasn't easy juggling his athletics and keeping the grades up, but he was just that good. The supporting parents didn't hurt either. It might be a cliché romance, but it will be fun to see what the year and beyond holds. ------------------------------------------ This is a story I wrote years ago, or at least partially wrote. It made guys feel comfortable with her that made it impossible to even treat her like a girl. It does not really bother her at first, because she was happy but what makes her upset about being herself was when she had a crush on Matt Cross. He is the captain of the basketball team, smart and any girl would wish to have. She wanted to change but sometimes, she let her positivity kick in that someday, she would be noticed by him and they might go out on a date one day. Austin Prince, Elliot's bestfriend and Ellie's enemy is the most popular guy in their school. Every girl in the school is attracted to him and would want to get their hands on him. He's the football captain, a ladies' man and holds the reputation of being the bad boy because he always spends his time in detention. Austin and Ellie has always on the verge of ripping each other's teeth off, they were enemies since they first met and it was because of Austin's childish acts and childish bickers that made Ellie think that he was her number one enemy. It does not really bother Ellie of how Austin acts but one day, she had enough of what Austin thinks about her look that gave her the motivation to change. With the help of Ellie's gal friends, they started the makeover project. A love story that if full of humor, fights, hormonal teenagers, love, teen drama that would make you laugh and cry in the same time.
