In a world where girls are harshly judged on what they look like - Mai Yagami struggles making friends in school because of her bright pink hair. (Yes, it's natural - and no, she has no idea how it's possible.) On top of that, she has to hide her real self from the world. Nobody wants to know she's an oktaku, that she always feels lonely, that she desperately wants friends, or that her parents are dead.
All the while, Shiro Hayashi is driven away from the world because of his treacherous past. Running as a fugitive, he's finally done with trying to hide from something that probably doesn't even exist. Changing his name, one last time, he winds up at the same high school as Mai Yagami.
The two fall deeper and deeper in love each day, until the "nonexistent" threat of Shiro's nightmares finds him and the couple are forced to take drastic measures.
