Rick and Shane were best friends in high school. They both had the same idea of becoming police officers for their small, residing town of Cynthiana, and they both shared feelings for the same woman.
After months of pushing through jealous thoughts and regretful actions during the supposed apocalypse, Shane Walsh’s lust for a married woman continued to loosen the bolts that once kept him grounded. He can’t tell what’s right or wrong anymore; all he knows is that in the end he won’t be the man begging for mercy.

Following closely the third season of the series, this story reveals the life of a fifteen year old survivor, Quinn, and her unusually close, but platonic, relationship with Merle Dixon as they survive the apocalypse together. Having lost her family in the first few weeks of the outbreak, Quinn is no stranger to the horrors this new world brings. The only silver lining was having Merle Dixon find her on the precipice of death and nurse her back to health. Because of that, Quinn has irrevocably bonded with the man on a deep level. Perhaps she is too deeply entwined in his life, too blind to what he has done, and what he is capable of. Perhaps she doesn't know the true Merle Dixon. Nevertheless, she will follow the older man to hell and back, and that truth will be tested in the time to come. Flashbacks are in italic.
