Brenna Nolle is the definition of the perfect Silver daughter: intelligent, polite, pretty, ladylike, and obedient, with an amazingly powerful ability to match. She's excited when she learns she is to participate in Queenstrial, the age-old tradition of the Silver High Houses, where she will showcase her skills in front of the royal family for a chance at becoming the next queen of Norta.
Like most other Silvers, Brenna doesn't pay much attention to the Red population in the kingdom -at least, she doesn't until a trip to the village leads her to meet Zavier, a poor Red boy who quickly makes his way into her heart. Before long, Brenna finds herself tangled up in the dangerous world of the Scarlet Guard -a Red rebellion aiming to take down the Silver monarchy once and for all- and she is faced with a difficult decision. Joining one side will mean abandoning the other, forever, and each comes with sacrifices that will threaten to break her.
