Jake Oakley through his carelessness murdered 5 people and died as well, as punishment he is forced to become Death itself and is given the task of redeeming his soul or else he suffers a fate worse than death. He denies that he has done anything wrong to deserve punishment, but he is forced into the role and now he must figure out how to redeem his soul when his job is to kill. Death's shroud is a cold and heavy burden that he would have rather not taken up, but some mistakes cannot be reversed.
