In the timeline of Lord  George Carnarvon  of Tutankhamun fame there are  many myths and legends and indeed  lies  ( including damned lies ). These lies  surround  the life and times and death  of  George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert,  the 5th Earl of Carnarvon ( formerly Lord Porchester )  of Highclere Castle, famed as the co-discoverer with  his devoted  lover Howard Carter of the Tomb of the boy King Tutankhamun in Egypt in 1922. Before the centenary let us hope the historical record is corrected and the truths told. The piece that follows by  William Cross, biographer of Almina, Countess of Carnarvon ( George's wife) attempts to correct some of the inaccuracies.All Rights Reserved

Whether they reached the summit or not is a mystery to this day. Sadly, they died on the mountain. Sandy's body hasn't been found while George's was found back in 1999. This story takes place right before Sandy leaves for Everest, and he is your average 1920's Oxford student. Most the events are based off of real events that happened with Sandy, as told in his biography called "Fearless on Everest" written by his great-niece Julie Summers.
