Sylvia Okenji expected her final year of school to go like any other; surviving her classes, making memories with her friends, and not ripping her tangled hair out from stress over exams.
But when her eighteenth birthday ends with Sylvia disappearing for two days without explanation, she is grounded for the rest of the year, unable to go back to the place she fled to; Siren Bay.
Only weeks away from her deadline, the temptation becomes too much. In the height of Australian summer, she had to go back to the alcove around the cliff's edge, where she discovered there was more to life than school, textbooks, and its exams.
There were real legends out there as well. Legends with glowing tails, powers one could only dream about, and bright eyes filled with hope that she would be the one to unlock their chains. Sylvia just wished she wasn't too late - and she wasn't about to make a mistake she couldn't undo.
