John Hudson is a normal man in his twenties.  He's struggling to make it out in the world.  He lives in a decent apartment in Chicago.  One subject he's extremely knowledgable on his history.  When he gets the opportunity to become a history teacher at a local high school, his life only begins to get better and better.  Or he thinks.  
When he makes a wish to be the most knowledgable man when it comes to history ever, he starts having odd dreams where he travels to different periods and places in history.  Although he thinks these dreams are a sign of something wonderful, they turn out to be a menace to his ambition.  And his life.

Winter in a city is an especially punishing time. This book comes out of my late nights and early mornings riding the train, and my looking at the window and being able to make out nothing but the blur of the glass. From the outside it may look dead, but certain people know that the inner workings of a city are a true marvel to behold. In writing this, I have tried to capture that marvel and deliver it to you, the reader. This is a book about a city and the people within it. The rest is up for you to read, if you so choose.
