All of the characters in my book are based off of real things throughout my life. I plan on making this a series and not a one time book. Like goosebumps. My CRO books wont be too long because of the age group I'm hoping reads this. As a child, I struggled with reading because of my short attention span. Therefor I made the chapters shorter. It is good for someone to feel as if they're accomplishing something and don't feel stressed or overwhelmed if the chapter is too long . I am hoping to have many more books to come. Being constantly compared to ones brother can make one feel neglected. This is the case for Kai Walker. His brother was the star of the schools soccer team as well as the star of the basketball team. Syd is living on the edge of his broken psyche when he comes across the person he had been waiting his entire life to meet. As things flourish, the rude awakening of the edict "nothing gold can stay" changes the tune of Syd's life as he finds out a truth that is completely devastating. And in the world of mental illness, this is a particularly harsh reality where Syd has to make a difficult decision on what he has to give up in his life. But even a broken drum has to keep beating. The entire story has been published from Chapter 1 to the Epilogue. It is broken into three parts, each quite distinct from the others as Syd's life is altered dramatically. This thing is a labor of love. After completing the story, I realized how much it meant to me personally. I learned things about myself I did not know until I wrote it. I feel as if from writing "Sound of a Broken Drum", my life has changed. In the way I perceive it and in the way I perceive the world around me. This story is not for everyone. There are a lot of people I know who would never want to read something like this. It's not for the apathetic, the privileged, the ones who coast and indulge in the bullshit. I know a lot of people like that. Maybe I wrote it as a means to get away from them. There are certainly people I feel who would read something like this. The mentally-pained, the loners, introverts, the lonely, those who struggle through the everyday things many people take for granted. Those who know too much. And feel too much. In their continual expansion, they seeded galaxies with pods and connection satellites. Over time they upgraded their dyson spheres into matryoshka brain Cores. Imagine a computer powered by a star. Citizens of Cores no longer age once they upload their minds into the virtual living system of the Core. While they didn't age, most still choose to cycle through life and death though at a different scale of time compared to our lives. Citizens can visit other planets and live there as if they were on a "vacation". Mercury is Earth's hub connected to the closest Core and Earth is a remote vacation spot for wealthy citizens. When the main character was 10 he witnessed a citizen returning to the Core. The story continues 10 odd years later when he again witnesses a similar situation unfolding and manages to touch the person returning to the Core. This causes him to be swept up in the transfer as well and for his mind to join as a "Guest" user of the Core. As a Guest he has limited powers, a starting balance of zero cr or Citizen credits, and no idea how he can get home. He is the first human to ever become a Guest of a Core. I actually keep a list with my chapters so I can equally balance the same amount of POV between all of them(or try to).
