Maria Ann Johnson is the fifteen-year-old daughter of Claire and Blake Johnson with the everyday life a usual teenager would have. She has the drama, the crushes, the friends, the stress, and the over-bearing parents. Not to mention one seriously over a protective best friend. Nonetheless, Maria believes her life is as normal as it can get. Except, what she doesn't know, is that her 'normal-perfect' life, was about to be turned upside down. 
Tyler Ross is the seventeen-year-old son of Ashley and Nick Ross. He doesn't have the same life as his best friend. With his parents fighting at every waking second, school work piling up, dramatic scenarios playing out, his street fighting, and dealing with his emotions about his younger best friend, he feels like a teenage girl going through her first period more than a guy his age going about their day.
