On the outskirts of the seemingly perfect utopian city of Ora lies The Steam, home to the Rebels - the people who have broken the society's mold. There's an ongoing battle between the grungy Rebel camp and the Leaders, but despite the high tech effects of the half machine Leaders, the inhabitants of The Steam can never quite be exterminated. Why? The Rebels have the Keepers, a secret group of wise elders who protect the history of the Ancient Times. They use these elders to their advantage, providing them with an abundance of knowledge. Enter Mackenzie Tucker, a feisty seventeen year old who cares deeply for her loved ones. Mackenzie and her best friend Logan Cannon had always known they were different. As children, they'd break rules all of the time, especially the ones about imagination. Now almost adults, the rule breaking slid from "no playing pretend" to "no breaking curfew". Following the disappearance of two of her family members, Mackenzie and Logan hear about The Steam. They make plans to go join the rebel camp, but things don't go exactly as planned. The two find themselves separated, both encountering new and strange things. The mistakes Mackenzie makes in effort to save her loved ones may be her ultimate downfall, and the compassion Logan holds for Mackenzie may be his. Will the dynamic duo be able to reunite and save the ruins of society, or will everything crumble to an end? (warning: this was my first book ever and it's pretty much trash, so read at your own risk)
