Rory Patterson has been heartbroken by one tragedy after another, so trust isn't something that comes easy for her. Deciding to give up the possibility of ever finding happiness, she is hyper-focused on her career, because that's the only thing in her life that she can control. She believes that love is toxic and is only a prequel to pain and misery, so she avoids it at all costs.

When a chance meeting at work brings her face-to-face with a man that is equally as broken as she is, she begins to second guess every piece of what she believes in. His proximity makes her feel something more than pain for the first time and it's intoxicating.

It's true that love finds a person when they least expect it to and sometimes, the force of it is so strong and intense that running away from it is an impossible feat. Finding herself unable to resist the temptation, Rory seems to have found solace in this man she is drawn to without reason.
