Jack pushed his dark bangs back from his bright and eager green eyes as he eyed the bow in front of him. It was long and curved gently like a cupid's lips, the ends curving back on themselves. The bow was made of top quality oak and it was gleaming and smooth.

Billy swallowed hard, his small hands clutching his bow. "I'm here because the forest chose me," he said, though his voice shook. The wolf stepped closer, its eyes narrowing. "The forest made a mistake. You don't belong here. Go home, boy, before you get hurt." Billy's heart pounded, but he stood his ground. "I belong here," he said, louder this time. "And I'm not going anywhere." The wolf lunged, its claws outstretched. Billy loosed an arrow, his magic guiding it to strike the wolf squarely in the chest.
