When, 18 year old Riley Matthews is graduated and she realizes she should get serious about her life. Think about college, think about jobs or part-time jobs at least, and get a school safely. The last thing she thought about was romance. Her best friend Maya Hart however was a very romantic girl. She would go on about 10 dates a week with Joshua (Josh) Matthews, Riley's uncle. Riley was jealous that she can get boys so easily. But Riley kept trying to focus on what "mattered" to her, school and jobs. She failed many job interviews. She couldn't make it into close by schools in their New York area. She didn't know what she was going to do. Suddenly, she wanted to be like Maya, romantic. She thought about who to date. All that she could think of was her old middle school boyfriend. Lucas Friar, from Texas. She never saw him since she cried on his shoulder leaving him for good at the 8th grade graduation. She thought she was never going to see him again, and he thought the same.
