Phil Lester is an eight year old boy with no real friends. He does though, have imaginary friends. They are, in Phil's opinion, better then real people, especially one. A little boy named Dan. Dan is the one that he could never forget, no matter how old he got. But, one day, he did.
Fast forward sixteen years, Phil is a 24 year old living in the heart of London. He had completely given up on the idea of imaginary friends years ago, and had learned to live in the world. But what happens what he sees his friend again, but, hes real this time?
