"You never know how strong you really are Layla until being strong is the only choice you have left.” Travis’s eyes were filled with determination while looking at the reflections of the stars in the sky. “But I tell you this Layla; you’ll know when you have to be strong when the time comes.” When Layla Thompson receives a gift from her long lost father on her 16th birthday she knew something was wrong. The ankh she receives from her father is believed to have magical powers, thankfully no one believed in it until now. 2 years later Layla stumbles upon the ankh with her 17 year old brother Travis in the basement one day. What she didn’t count on was finding herself with her younger brother in Egyptian times. With facing new challenges, making new friends and finding love their lives will never be the same again. But deep in the darkness of that world lays the greatest challenge of all, getting out. Getting in was the easy part, but getting out was the hardest. Follow Layla’s and Travis’s adventure and see if they make it out in time.

She looks up at me, taking a step forward and smiling slightly, "How can I ever get hurt when I have you here to protect me?" "But you could have gotten hurt," I murmur softly, hanging my head and feeling my shoulders drop, the tension seeping from my body. "No. Stop," She cuts me off sternly but tenderly, "Don't talk like that, Reece. I'm okay, you're okay, we're okay," She speaks softly, reaching her hand up to gently brush her thumb over my cheek, just under the cut that's there. "We're okay," I repeat, taking a small step closer to her. She nods with a small smile, moving her hand down from my cheek and instead placing the palm of her hand on my chest, right over my heart. I know she can feel how fast my heart is beating. I just don't know why it's doing that. ~ Reece Carter is the bad boy of Northwood High. He smokes and he fights.
