Daniel Foster and Gemma Allen were second-cousins, childhood bestfrineds since they were four. When they turned eight, Daniel’s father got a promotion in New York, while Gemma stayed with her grandma, Rosa Allen, in Ohio.

Turn the clock twenty years later and you get Mr. Daniel Foster, New York’s Larose Magazine Chief Chairman. He used to be the sweetest person you meet, but bring Shracey Peters, his boss’ daughter, and you get a totally different person. Gemma Allen became a landscape artist—that was her passion. She was sweet, kind and a pushover; she did anything anyone asks her to do—as long it’s reasonable. But rarely she says’ no, especially to her grandma, who is soon going to be on her death bed. Her nature is very soft and endearing; she would feel selfish and guilty if she refuses. She loved her grandma to death; she would even marry her long forgotten second cousin, Daniel Foster, for her.

They get married in front of their family and friends, but secretly sign a contract to be divorced in one year. Daniel could not get Shracey out of his mind and starts to abuse Gemma emotionally, maybe even physically.
