Elwes is a broken kingdom with a monarchy filled to the brim with greedy murderers. Every year, a girl with grey eyes is chosen by the prince to have their powers sucked out of them to restore the Prince's complete power.

But after the girl, who must be under 20, has her powers leeched out of her, she dies. So when Tarla is chosen as the Taken One, she escapes Elwes, on a mission to save her family, stop the Monarchy, and not be captured by the royal guards.
