The year is April 23,1962 the hot California air hits you at every turn the long green fields of grapes are all around me and the sticky feeling in my hand is the blood of the grapes.
At a young age of nine Catalina has learned to grow up due to her mother who died due to all the chemicals in the fields. Its only her papa and two older brothers Diego and Jesus who have to travel all over the state of California to pick the newest season of crops. There heading for a small town in called Arvin till the there is no more grapes to be picked. Due to all the traveling Catalina tries to live the normal American teen life from having a crush on the farmer son who is to old for you and also having a teacher trying to mother you. Threw this journey of racial barriers and love that is taboo Catalina will learn that the fields have a lot to teach people.
