Thranduil's face loomed closer as he leaned down. Their eyes were locked, and Alina saw his darken almost imperceptibly with unknown emotions. Noses brushing again, her eyes closed and she instinctively tilted her head up to him. His cool breath fanned her face, and her heart quickened. "Don't be afraid to ask for help, my dear."
Startled, Alina's eyes flew open, only to see Thranduil, a smirk on his face and the baskets in his hands. His eyes gleamed with laughter as he turned to walk away, leaving Alina with a burning face and a racing pulse.

In the heart of the cursed Mirkwood Forest, Legolas, the prince of the woodland realm, is haunted by an inexplicable feeling of being watched. Unbeknownst to him, his every move is shadowed by a female elf (I am not going to reveal the name), the enigmatic and fiercely skilled general of the Mirkwood army, who has vowed to protect her prince and her king - Thranduil. Legolas, however, remains unaware of her presence. Every midnight, she cloaks herself in secrecy and ventures out to meet him, masking her identity. Under the cover of darkness, she observes him carefully. Amidst the looming threats of darkness creeping into Mirkwood, the unlikely bond between Legolas and the general becomes both a source of strength and vulnerability. When news of the One Ring's existence and its devastating power reaches the woodland realm, Legolas, along with a fellowship of brave companions, embarks on a perilous quest to destroy the Ring and save Middle-earth from the clutches of darkness. In a tale of hidden identities, midnight meetings, and unspoken emotions, "Shadows of Mirkwood" explores the profound connection between two souls destined to protect their realm and, in the process, find solace in each other's arms. As they face the ultimate quest to destroy the Ring, their love becomes a beacon of hope in the face of overwhelming darkness. Will their love withstand the challenges of secrecy, duty, and the temptation of the Ring, or will the shadows that brought them together also tear them apart?

The Elvenking is like a very strong, old tree, deeply rooted in the kingdom he pledged himself to protect. He also pledged himself to protect his heart from love, out of fear that it might weaken him, but that proved to be disastrous. Love... what daunting word rubbed in his face by that fearless redhead elleth during the battle in Dale. Is there any love left in him? Follows what happens with Thranduil and Tauriel after BOTFA, during the War of the Ring and further into the 4th Age. Mainly from Thranduil's POV and including canon events that are only briefly mentioned in the books. I try to respect the lore as much as I can. Apart from the romance, I wanted to explore Thranduil's character based on what we know about his life. Feedback and comments are much appreciated :) "His words were unforgiving again, hiding under the same cold tone he had for centuries, yet he could not believe them himself anymore. Tauriel was looking at him, her gaze seemingly piercing through his soul. His dream to restore Mirkwood to Greenwood and his thoughts of avenging his beloved wife were contradicting everything he said. He did not want to care yet every fibre of his being cared too much." "There was something else that Thranduil noticed in Celeborn's eyes: a combination of respect and admiration. 'You are strong, Thranduil. You are like one of the old Mirkwood trees, deeply rooted in the earth, that the centuries cannot wither. I always thought that, no matter what evil lies upon Arda, you will endure.' PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS "Shifted Priorities" A travelling Elf tries to seduce every important Elf she sees, and her Dwarf companion is reluctantly following in her adventures. NOTE This story was previously published as "Shifted Priorities" but we belatedly noticed some structural errors from the process of breaking it into chapters. We also changed some of the wording, so we decided to just upload a fixed version and unpublish the old one. This was co-written with my partner and we have not written any kind of fanfiction before. Feel free to leave any feedback you may have. It's also cross-posted on Archive of Our Own.
