Gaining back my innocents is a realistic novel about a senior in high school who incidentally bullied a girl into suicide. Considering she was quite a bit messed up her self, she was about to hit the breaking point. The brother of the woman she had just killed helps her out of her depression in hope to make her a better person. Can he help her gain back her innocents or is she and forever will be a ticking time bomb.

In a sick sort of way, she loved it-reminiscing about Leo, literally drowning in the memories of him. And it isn't long till Riley does drown herself among those gray memories, shutting and shunning the world forever, in a place too far to reach. She is already so gone, that every one of her friends and family are very close to giving up, and on each tick of the clock Riley is close to letting go. Will a curious stranger's words save her, or will Riley try to save herself? *If you read the summary, and decided that it is some sort of typical clichè , I'd like to tell you that this is NOT a cliche 'damsel-in-distress-saved-by-a-knight-in-shining-armour' story at all. A girl has high grades at school and she begins to come to the end of school when a teacher she knows asks her to come and work for him as a babysitter /nanny. She moves into his house and learns that his partner is hardly around. Once she begins to look after the two kids the teacher realises that the kids love her and she loves the kids. But as his partner not being around he starts to fall for the girl even though he knows he shouldn't. He gives her lifts to school for the last few weeks then as he realises he loves her he calls into his partners hotel room as she is in town to only find that she has found someone else and has started again with them. He breaks it off fuming then goes to find the new love of his life and asks her to be his girlfriend. She agrees and then they live their lives freely with his kids and maybe another little one. The systems that help, refuge, counselling, and support. Ari has to fight her way through two court systems without spiralling. It shows the understanding and empathy from strangers, friends, family, and charities towards the main character. The positive relationships in the main characters' lives, how sometimes friends and family don't understand, however kindness and humour help. Also, mothers can be made to feel guilty at many different points for different reasons, even when it's over something that isn't the mothers fault. It also has subjects surrounding children diagnosed very early in life with disabilities, the challenges, and breakthroughs that some with it. Themes of stigma and of sympathy.
