Clara's parents are used to her coming home with bruises, cuts and scrapes. It's not like they don't care. They punished her, but when her punishment was up she would come home with bigger bruises and deeper cuts. So they gave up.
On Clara's first day back at school she runs into three new guys, (Cage Miller, Samuel Moore, and Dylan Jacobson) they end up 'claiming' her. Which later leaves her angry and confused. Things get messy when Clara is asked to tutor Cage for extra credit. Not only because she doesn't like him or his friends but also because it takes away from her training time. She's not training for a war, she is simply training for her next battle. But the battle that Cage brings to the table is nothing she could've ever trained for.
