Summer had finally come to the small town of Little Falls, Michigan. It had been a long and hard winter as most winters are in that part of the country. The warmth of summer was only a slight respite from the harsh and brutal winds of the long and cold winters.
John Watson had hoped to stay in Little Falls for the rest of his life, but fate deemed otherwise. With the loss of his job, John decided it was time for a change. With his wife, Jessie and his son, Travis, John packed up his meager belongings and set out for his hometown, Bear Creek where the faces were familiar and the jobs more plentiful.
Bear Creek was a small town carved from the thick forests of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was beautiful country and a quiet town of splendor, but it was run by a man named Harlan Steelman.
Harlan Steelman was a man who found his way in and out of every backroom, bedroom, and barroom in all of Bear Creek. Harlan Steelman and John Watson were bitter rivals in high school. In fact, John had stolen Jessie from Harlan and married her, something that Harlan could never forget. With John’s return, Harlan became obsessed with the revenge that was long overdue, and the love for Jessie that had never died.
When Harlan is found dead one morning, all eyes turn to John. He is taken into custody, and the trial of the century for the little town of Springfield is under way. It was a routine trial with slight twists and turns and an ending that would never be predicted by anyone in town.
A KILLING IN A SMALL TOWN takes a hard look at the intimate relationships between men and women, as well as allowing us to step inside a small town courtroom for a ride that was totally unpredictable.
