Black and white - the two colors that contrast each other like none other. Emma and Alexis resembled those two colors. Why? Because while one strived for popularity, the other one strived for food. While one strived for a healthy figure, the other one wouldn't even know what that meant. But, that's all about to change when they are both sent to Camp Sandy Hills (CSH), a supposed fat camp, where they teach you all about eating right and whatnot. Put the two together in a cabin for a whole summer and what do you get? Total chaos. The only thing that they seem to have in common is Zach, the cute counselor, that all the girls seems to be crushing on. Their ultimate motivation to become skinnier? Well, I'll leave that up to you to find out. This is going to be one heck of a summer!

The Giant Forest - COMPLETED - True to life adventures of preteens. by billbelew
48 parts Complete
#7 for middle grades! Giant forest = a really big forest or a forest with giants? Or both. Only the reader knows. In this true-to-life story, Aimi, Roci, Mousi, Sybil and Sycamore are a loose group of friends, aka The Bunch, who attend school together. The Bunch go to a 150-year old church camp, Mount Hermon, founded around the time of the first gold rush in 1849. The camp is located in a giant forest situated in the Santa Cruz mountains of California, just over the hill from Silicon Valley. In keeping with the principles of its founders, Bart, Prissie and their adopted son Artie, the camp administrators want the camp to be a modern day refuge for children like the Bunch who live at a time when many people around them, including their parents, are chasing new gold in their area. Each member of the Bunch becomes seemingly inexplicably lost in the giant forest. They must each find themselves, then find one another before they can together again find their way home. Along the way they receive help from new animal friends whose ancestors had previously received a life-saving kindness from the founders of Mt. Hermon. Along the way, each member of the Bunch battles with and finds resolution to problems they face at home from overbearing or neglectful parents, sibling rivalry, prejudice, betrayal and displaced loyalty. When the five become reunited, bigger battles ensue. To return home they must overcome giants that have plagued them throughout their lost experience. Once victorious, the Bunch is led back to Mt. Hermon by their forest friends. Spoilers; The other campers assembled in the cavernous camp convention center ....

"So... how do you like your coffee?" I ask, reaching for the cupboard to get a mug for him. "I can make a mocha, a cappuccino, a latte, a double shot, a triple shot--" "I don't drink coffee," he replies, looking at my coffee with distaste. "Caffeine makes people obnoxious, and it tastes nasty anyway." "Are you serious?" I ask, trying to fathom how someone couldn't like coffee, at least some type of it. "How can you not at least like a half shot with creamer and whipped cream and sugar and caramel?" "Like I said," he says, taking a glass from the cupboard and pouring his orange juice into it from the fridge, "it makes people obnoxious and loud. It's annoying. If I need something to wake me up, I have some simple carbohydrates and then complex ones to give me a long energy boost without a crash." I just stand there for a second, trying to understand what he said. I give up after a while of thinking, trying to fathom how someone would rather have juice and toast instead of a triple-shot espresso with caramel creamer or an iced macchiato or at least just a plain old cup of coffee in the morning. It's gonna be a long summer. ^.^.^ Jess has always loved sparklers. Heck, she's always loved everything about summer. Well, she did, at least -- until she met Gavin, anyway. She's fire, but he's the cold bucket of water that puts it out. She's loud and spontaneous, but he's constantly trying to get her to shut up and do something quiet. The worst part about this whole set up? They're spending the entire summer at the same cabin with both of their families, who have now decided that the two of them should be best friends. Meanwhile, Jess' older brother and Gavin's older sister are getting cozy, and the entire family is pushing for them to be together, making it worse yet.
Pretty, Popular and Partnered by FallenStar22

“Every girl wants to be pretty, popular and partnered.” I, Poppy Lake, need help. I seem incapable of functioning like a normal teenage girl; I’m not pretty, popular and I’ve never so much as held a boy’s hand let alone had a boyfriend. Wherever girls learn how to do this stuff, I need to find out. Do they have some secret society or something where they discover these skills? I’m thirteen and I hardly know how make friends. Funnily enough, that’s almost the least of my worries. My hair has not grown at all in the last two months and the little hair I have is frizzy and dull. I can’t wake up without it looking like a puffball and my attempts to grow it out have failed. The flakes of dry skin on my legs were bugging me so I tried to scrap them off but they were everywhere and rubbing my hand up and down my shin only revealed I needed to shave my legs. At some point, my thighs and tummy had expanded without me noticing (although how I missed that I don’t know) and now I looked like an elephant. Unfortunately, my ears support this look by being perpendicular to my head. I pulled my trousers back down and caught sight of at least another ten spots emerging on my forehead, chin and neck. I’ve tried squeezing them, putting toothpaste on them and even skipping chocolate for two weeks, but spots remain stubbornly there whatever I do. Why does my body feel the need to punish me so much? I threw myself on my bed so I wouldn’t have to look at my horrible, imperfect face in the mirror any more. “Urgh,” I moaned into the covers. There was a lot going wrong in my life: 1. My face is hideous; 2. I’m fat; 3. None of the clothes I own are remotely stylish; 4. I have never been asked out; 5. The most popular girl at school hates me; 6. And I fancy her boyfriend. ---- Based off How To Be Popular by Meg Cabot, the story follows Poppy, a young girl in a situation similar to Steph's who gets personal advice from the mentor herself.

You have decent grades, live with your mom and hang with your dad on weekends, have a good amount of friends and then BOOM BANG POW! Your Best Friend Jaiden and yourself are being sent to Camp Campbell. You're not very excited for it because you planned to spend your summer of freedom by going to the beach and boardwalk and other 14 year old things but now you must survive a filthy lake, gross food, moderate plumbing and a hyper active Camp counselor. You imagined it being the worst, Jaidens lucky for being so optimistic, but you never knew you'd meet someone you'd eventually grown to tolerate, then befriend, then more.
