Andrew Cooper is a detective working in the special crimes unit of the Anchorage, Alaska Police Department. After a tragedy, he is left homeless and living at the precinct, until, in an act of desperation, he accepts an offer to temporarily reside with another detective. The detective making this offer is Andrew's new and complex, mysterious partner, Cambria Östberg. Everything about her is seemingly admirable, but she's impossible to understand. Getting to know her is a task which is seemingly impossible to Andrew, but the two detectives must learn to get along and trust one another in order not only to live together, but to be successful at their jobs.
