Searching Dreams

She took a deep breath and stepped forward. Her hand stretched out in front of her, towards him. “It’s you.” She whispered, and took another step closer. Her breath came out as white puffs. It rose up into the night, and then faded away. As she took another step closer, he stepped back. “How?” she breathed out. Her voice sounded breathy and seemed to disappear as quickly as the white puffs of her breath. He stepped back again, then turned around and started to walk away. The world was silent, not a thing could be heard. “Who are you?” she called softly, hesitantly, then more loudly and more desperately, “Who am I?” just as he disappeared from sight.

April has no idea where she is. Even worse, she has no idea who she is. Found in a barn two months ago with a head injury, and consequently amnesia, she is now stuck in a small town with no money, identification, and rent to pay.
But April, named after the month she was found, does remember something, a man. Dreams of this man fill April’s nights, but they also fill April with a longing for something, for someone. The man in April’s dreams fills her with longing, but the dark aura that surrounds the man also fills her with dread.
Longing and dread, paired with desperation, drive April to the city, to look for the only place she remembers with the hope of finding herself, a dark, quiet, empty street.
