A high school drop out living in her twin sister's shadow has given up on the world and herself. With severe depression, anxiety, a rare blood disorder, and hallucinating shadow figures, her life seems to be nearly hopeless. Madeline can't go to school or hold a job without experiencing a panic attack brought on by the dark figures that seem to be everywhere. Living a life in terror and failure, plus a rare blood disorder that leaves her constantly fatigued, is not the life she wanted. The weekly therapy sessions and blood transfusions only can do so much. Madeline decides to end it all, but on that night, the shadow people save her... then tell her that she is the only one that can save them.
