Blackriver, or Bree to any human she ever met, is an immortal shape shifter, cursed to walk her world in a form not her own. Bree has a questionable sense of morals, a low opinion of all mortals, particularly humans, a troubled past, which includes being a professional assassin for at least eight centuries straight, and a missing brother.
Assassin consists of two books. In Broken Leashes, Bree has put her search for her brother on hold, joining a company of so called "bounty hunters" and "private security", H.A.W.I. In reality, they're the hired help for the police, military, and certain government powers. In exchange for their work serving their employers, the authorities tend to "look the other way" when it comes to H.A.W.I.'s less than moral or legal methods and jobs. The first chapter starts with Bree waiting for her partner to join her.
Gavin Taylor, a former solider, previously a history professor want-a-be, is a rough and gruff typical human. He didn't ask to be partnered with Bree, and she certainly didn't want it either. With her previous partner retired, Bree had to accept the rookie, in other words her job was on the line if she didn't. The story follows them as she drags the human into a world life and death, magic and science, love and war, and mysteries beyond what his mortal mind can fathom.
