Breath of Death

"I'm sorry," Sydney breathed as she traced the contours of his strong jawline with a slender finger. "I'm so sorry."

His eyes clouded over with concern, and he caught her hand with one swift move. "Why are you sorry?"

"It's just... I..."

*Kill him.*

Her heart throbbed painfully, but she knew she had to do it.

*Kill him.*

She rested her forehead against his and closed her eyes, feeling a light pressure on her lips as she kissed him for the last time. It was slow, passionate, gentle, yet at the same time fiery and desperate because she knew his time was almost up.

*Kill.*

*Him.*

No, no. No!

*Kill him!*

And as she pulled away from the kiss, she took a deep breath, inhaling his woodsy scent. His face contorted in pain as he felt his soul being sucked from him.

"Sydney, what are you-"

"I love you," was all she said, before he collapsed on the floor with his blue eyes opened wide in shock; unmoving, not breathing.

Sydney stared sadly at his corpse, cradling his head on her lap. Then she leaned back against the cool, tiled wall and choked back a sob.

Her first victim.
