Just my interpretation of the thoughts running through Katniss' head at the end of the film. Because I don't think enough people appreciate that Peeta's hijacking  didn't cause him to be angry, vindictive or vengeful. But that it caused him to feel a fear he never felt before. A fear of Katniss . . .

The day he died was the first in a long line of times I have ever seen Katniss cry. She never cried before then but she cried a lot after. Katniss' mother was suppose to get a job after his passing, she didn't. They were starving, dying. I decided to help. After school I would drag Katniss into the woods by her feet. We'd never gone in there without her father. It seemed like a scarier place without him. After some time it wasn't so scary. I don't know what made me volunteer for Katniss. When I heard her name echo throughout the crowd my heart stopped. It wasn't my name, but it was my best friends. There was no way she could survive in there. She had a family, a sister to take care of. I thought my parents could live without me. The name Effie called next was the only name I prayed and prayed I would never hear her say. Peeta Mellark.
