When shy, introverted Enid returns home from a vacation in the UK, she's got a surprise waiting for her: There's a grandfather of hers her family never talked about. He is dying, and now she's got one last chance to meet him.
Only at his deathbed does she learn she has inherited not only considerable wealth from him--including a storage in Paris chock-full of ancient artifacts--but also more trouble than she could possibly handle, and an honest-to-goodness curse on top of it.
The more about her family history is revealed, the more obvious it gets: Wherever they walked, her grandfather, her great-grandfather ... death and disaster would inevitably follow in their wake.
And now it follows her.
Half a century in Enid's past, seemingly unconnected, German noblewoman Henrietta von Arenberg witnesses in horror as a friend of hers gets almost murdered by a demonic doppelganger.

Ezra Beaumont, marquess of Winchester and future Duke, although thanks to his arrogance and narcissistic tendencies, he was sent to work down in the village with the local breadmaker in an attempt to humble him and make him a better person and better ruler by his parents the current Duke and Duchess of Winchester. Amelia's been trying to find her mother for as long as she can remember but all she has is a name. What neither Amelia nor Ezra knew, was that that name would connect them in a way neither would've ever imagined. She finds someone so broken under that cold exterior that she can't help but want to help him. They get thrown into a world of witches, wizards and magic and evil. They set off on a journey to become some of the most powerful witch and wizard to ever live, in order to defeat a great evil. Along the way, they recruit five other individuals each experienced in a different area of magic. Who will love and who will hate?
