A single tear slipped down my cheek and I blinked again, my eyes only staying half open this time. There were heavy steps near me and I was gently dragged towards a source of heat. The point of warmth, seemingly another dragon, wrapped a thin purple-grey tail around my legs, raising my feet up to be propped up on a curved grey talon, angling me so that more of the blood would go to supply my upper body. Suddenly there was a huge roar. I take a step back covering my ears, my head spins, it is so loud I can't hear myself think. I stand at the mouth of the cave that yawns wide open on the side of a cave. Its big, bigger than a mountain lion bigger than a bear. And I am about to walk into it's cave. But I HAVE to find out what it is. What if there IS a dragon? It will eat me for sure. but I keep going, I just need to make sure it doesn't see me. I walk to this opening as the path split in two edging me across the wall. I will be careful, silent, it will never know I was even here. There is a rocky cliff side and a drop. I look up from my thought and my eyes lock with gleaming golden eyes. I freeze every muscle in my body locks and I can't move. Towering taller than a building stands something I never thought could exist. A dragon. My heart pounded in my ears as my blood ran cold.Complete

"Are you coming to bed firefly?" He says to me laying his hands over my waist joining me in looking over the city. "I want to look out for a little longer if that is alright?" I mumble hoping that he heard me anyways, I wasn't ready to walk into that bedroom, and I don't think I ever would be. "Of course, I'll be getting ready for bed, come in whenever you are ready." He says confidently and walks away leaving my waist cold something for which I am grateful. Especially when my mind burns with other more dangerous thoughts. The warmth that forever lingers in the air, never burning the skin, but always reminding about what is around us. I force air into my lungs feeling the unexpected warmth fill me. He stands in the room watching me even though he said he was getting ready for bed. He is worried about me, about me jumping. I have contemplated it I will admit, but he would stop me before I fell even two feet. I was stuck, and no one could save me. Not even myself, my fucking weak self. His presence is demanding no matter where we are, but right now I could sense everything about him, and I try to suppress the unwanted feelings that curl right under my skin. "Firefly? About done?" He calls out and I release my hand from the guard rail not realizing that as I looked at the lights that covered the shining city with the falling fire in the background that my subconscious was thinking about how nice it would be... how relieving it would be... to just fall. True freedom. I take a step back and wrap my hands together turning around to a fully clothed unchanged man and nod once. I could see the fear in his eyes that I would, he knows if he gave me the chance... I wasn't ready for this, but I had to survive. No matter what. Was my attempt to revise the slower pacing, but I'm not sure how well it worked, but since I put in the work, here it is.) Summary: The dragonets are flourishing; both those in the park and those helping the Kymari. As the first dragonets to hatch in the Kymari civilization, Tessa and her brother are paving a new path as they grow up and learn how to fit into the world. New beginnings are often great things, but sometimes shadows from the distant past come calling. Excerpt: I braced my feet against the wall as I pulled. Suddenly, the lever swung downward. I lost my grip and tumbled backward. I landed on my side and slid across the counter. My legs and tail flailed as I tried to get to my feet or slow down-but I didn't manage it in time. Almost in slow motion, my feet went off the counter as I slid into the air. Without thinking, my wings popped open and beat hard as I twisted, trying to turn right side up so I could fly properly. I blinked in shock when I realized I was already flying upward. Grinning triumphantly, I beat my wings again and went back to the counter. Pleased with my flying abilities, I proudly landed on the counter - and forgot to slow down, which promptly sent me sliding across the slippery surface, lightly colliding with the glass door. I ducked my head sheepishly, glad no one else had seen that. My eyes locked onto the gap between the glass doors. With an eager grin, I pressed my shoulder against the edge and pushed. My feet struggled to find traction, but it was opening! Once I pushed the door far enough, I scampered over to the cantaloupe. It was much bigger up close. I blinked slowly, trying to think about how I was going to move it. There was no way I'd be able to lift it. It was round though. Round things could roll, right?Complete

Nova disguise as a boy to enter the military school. If she is discovered as a girl, she will be kicked out. She is desperate to hide from trackers who have been following her for a dozen years. No one would think to look for her in an all-male military school. She hides among werewolves and is one of the very few nonshifters at the school. She catches the new instructor's curiosity, and her identity is threatened. He claims to be her mate, but she knows that her kind don't have a mate and desperately tries to avoid him. If he stumbles upon her true identity, she is screwed. "What are you doing?!" growls his highness, ripping the knife from my hands. It tingles as his fingers close around my wrist. Fresh blood flows from the wound, turning his hands red. Deep throaty sounds, rumbling in his chest. "You hurt yourself," he says softly, pain evident in his voice. I look up and frown. "It's just a small cut," I reply, annoyed. None of the other cadets get this kind of attention. Besides, we have to learn this to pass the exam. "Shhh, it's going to be okay," he says, pressing me close. My whole side explodes with sparks. It tickles me. "You have to stop hurt yourself. Why are you even here? How am I going to protect you here?" he asks angrily. "I don't need your protection!" I shout, pushing him away. I get an angry growl back. Quickly I grab another knife and throws it over my shoulder, hitting bulls' eye. He glares at me, and the room has gone completely silent.
