"Do you think of me, in the quiet of the crowd?"

It's the year leading up to the First World War, and for Lily Denby, everything is about to change.  Her way of life, friendships and family are about to be torn apart by the powers of the war and the impact of society.  Young, naive and rendered powerless by the war, Lily watches as the world emerges into a new order, and feels the heartbreak of true loss and devastation of a world waged by violence.  

Along the way, Lily develops relationships with two men from very different worlds.  Sebastian Carter, a wealthy gentleman by name and society; and Jonah Fitzwilliam, a young gardener forced into the world of violence by the war.  These two men change and shape Lily's future as much as the war ever could as she falls in love and feels the heartbreak of losing those closest to you.
