Tears start to well up in my eyes when I eventually turn back around to face the judge. I try to look strong, but its no use, my head drops and I look down at the ground so no one can see the loose tears run down my cheeks.
"Please sir, I would never do this, you have to believe me." I say in a voice that's barley higher then a whisper, I doubt he even heard me. I try to wipe away the tears, but its no use, I know I'm a goner.
They're gonna kill me, I just know it. I've heard about this in school before. People who break the rules in our world are automatically killed. Harsh right? Well, I wish it was different to, especially right now. And for me, well apparently I just broke the number one rule. And it wasn't even me! My family and my friends won't even help me. For all they know, I'm a low life scum who doesn't care about our safety of our world, our people! The only one who knows the truth is my sister, and by the looks of it, she won't help me.
I give one last glance to Sabrina with glassy eyes. She finally looks at me with a sorry look. I open mouth to say something, but it just hangs there in defeat. Unless she speaks up, I know I have no luck, no way of getting out of this.
She mouths, "I'm sorry."
I'm sorry? That's it? That's all shes going to say!? I'm sorry? I'm sorry is not going to fix this. I'm sorry won't help me not die. I'm sorry is useless and pathetic to say when she knows the truth that I'm innocent and shes guilty!
Something inside me snaps, and I glare at my sister one final time until the Judge speaks. What he's about to say surprises me, my family, and everyone in the court room.
"If you like humans so much, then go live with them! You are banished from our world, never to set foot in this place again as long as you shall live."

Sometimes love is the strongest magic of all
***
Nineteen-year-old Rhia Greenbrook has lived in the sleepy town of Oakriver in a house with three generations of witches her entire life. Rhia draws her magic from the earth and likes to spend her time amongst plants and nature. Her practice is gentle, sacred, and-per her family's tradition-secret.
New-to-town witch Valerie Morgan is looking for answers about her mother's disappearance from Oakriver seventeen years ago. Without her mother's guidance, Valerie has cultivated her fire magic on her own and she makes no effort to keep her powers hidden. Although Rhia is immediately annoyed by Valerie's blatant use of magic, she can't deny the instant magnetism between them.
But amidst their magical connection, a dark presence looms over Oakriver. Unsettling visions from Rhia's grandmother and dangerous sleepwalking episodes throw into question Valerie's past and what role her presence plays in the strange happenings. And as Valerie gets tangled up further into the darkness, it's up to Rhia to tap into the full potential of her power in order to save the town she loves and the girl she's fallen for.
