Chiyo - a low maid in the extravagant Shimabara - has a lot on her hands: a full time job of nonstop chores, listening to geisha complaints, and taking care of three orphans all at once. Chiyo's life is already planned out for her, and she completely loses all hope in escaping her prison-like life. When the famous Harada Sanosuke comes into the picture, Chiyo knows more trouble is bound to follow him. The man finds her intriguing, despite her scars, but she is determined to have no ties with him. However, all else fails when she begins to realize Sanosuke is far different from the rest of lusty men she sees regularly. Perhaps, her dream to flee may still be intact.
