Katniss Hawthorne was at a high point in her life, coming up on her third anniversary with her high school sweetheart Gale Hawthorne and getting promoted for her work as a journalist for the New York Times newspaper. But that doesn't last long because everything goes downhill from there. After finding out her husband left her for another woman she looses her job and home leaving her with no money and no where to go. When a certain young man, who has had an eye on her for quite some time and just happens to be her former divorce lawyer, takes her in off the streets she discovers shocking news. She is pregnant with her ex-husband's baby. Will he stick with her and help with the pregnancy or just be another man to leave her?

When I was eleven. My whole world changed. Katniss' dad died in a mining accident. You think it wouldn't affect me but I loved him just as much as Katniss did. Maybe even more than I loved my own father. I felt bad, that my own dad couldn't compare to Katniss'. He loved me too though. Loved me like his own. The day he died was the first in a long line of times I have ever seen Katniss cry. She never cried before then but she cried a lot after. Katniss' mother was suppose to get a job after his passing, she didn't. They were starving, dying. I decided to help. After school I would drag Katniss into the woods by her feet. We'd never gone in there without her father. It seemed like a scarier place without him. After some time it wasn't so scary. I don't know what made me volunteer for Katniss. When I heard her name echo throughout the crowd my heart stopped. It wasn't my name, but it was my best friends. There was no way she could survive in there. She had a family, a sister to take care of. I thought my parents could live without me. The name Effie called next was the only name I prayed and prayed I would never hear her say. Peeta Mellark.
