Wister: A man who chose or was forced to feel only one emotion in order to gain advanced senses, energy, and strength. It is widely known that wisters are evil, dangerous, and to be treated like dogs, if not entirely extinguished. All wisters, whether forced or chosen, were born as a regular human being. Well... every wister except Finch.

He wears a mask of self control, a mask nearly glued into his face. This mask holds him together, keeping him "sane." He's had it since he almost killed his little brother as a kid. The mask smiles, frowns, smirks, widens his eyes, and manages to force out a chuckle or two. The mask is normalcy, and it is safe.

Finch's mask hides the monster he was born to be. Cursed to only ever feel curiosity, all he wants to do is answer questions. The questions are non discriminatory. Some are innocent, like "Why is the sky blue?" Others are dangerous, such as, "How long would it take a full grown man to actually die after his neck was broken?"

For the sake of everyone around him, Finch pretends to be afraid of himself. He pretends to hate his Wist. He pretends to feel things he doesn't. He wears a mask. Once they learn about his tight control, most agree with his actions. Most help him keep the mask on, but not Rianna. She wants to pry it off piece by piece and uncover the real Finch Vigo.

Will he let her in? Can he let anyone in without losing his mask completely? Will she survive when she finally realizes exactly what Finch is? Is he wrong about his inner nature? Can an emotionless Wister live without a mask?

When the cast and crew arrive in Hammond to film a documentary about life in the medieval stronghold, Ain is seeking something very different than are the hundreds of others who arrive beside him. Desperately he is searching for a solace from the hurt his life has dealt him, and he looks toward the months ahead in his role as Hammond's First Knight as a respite - a turning point - from his long despair. But when the power flickers and goes out, everything is turned upside down. All modern machinery suddenly becomes useless, and every form of communication with the outside world is severed. Hammond is cut off and left to wonder what has caused these things to happen. All seem to look to Ain for answers, and a series of visions and signs suggests he has been set apart to serve a noble purpose in this strangely altered world. This purpose, however, he wishes to deny, for he deems himself unworthy to pursue it. Yet there is one who sees him and his purpose truly, even in the spite of his denial. Mallory guesses his secrets and, against his every resistance, has soundly claimed his heart. Even so, Ain is convinced he must not let her have it, for he believes that giving her his love will bring about her doom. Then a chance meeting with a stranger in the fields turns deadly, and everyone is panicked, fearing all the world has been upended; then in the midst of all their fears, Mallory suddenly falls ill. Even while Mallory's fate is yet uncertain, Ain is pressed to journey out beyond their borders in hopes of finding help and comfort and good news to soothe the hearts at Hammond. A small company he takes with him, but the more they see and learn, the more their hopes subside. Misery and need, neglect and great misfortune meet them everywhere they go, and Hammond's travelers feel helpless as they face it. And when they begin to be pursued, Ain's last remaining hope is just to get them back to Hammond's gates alive...

∆ For centuries, I observed humanity from the shadows - detached, eternal, unwavering in my purpose. Every contract I fulfilled brought a sense of completion, reinforcing the essence of my existence. Life unfolded in a rhythm I had long accepted: steady, predictable, untouched by emotion. Until you appeared. Your presence shattered the stillness of my world like a sudden tremor beneath ancient stone. From the moment you stepped into my path, something shifted - light spilled into corners I'd forgotten existed, and with it, the vivid hues of forgotten feeling. You, with your quiet defiance and magnetic pull, unsettled something I had buried deep. In your presence, emotions long entombed stirred - wild, chaotic, alive. Like a storm breaking over calm waters, you roused in me a fire I didn't know still burned. My composure cracked. My certainty unraveled. Each encounter left an imprint. A spark. A mark I could not erase. Slowly, unknowingly, a bond formed - fragile, yet undeniable. And with each breath you took beside me, I felt something I hadn't in centuries: I felt alive. Not because of purpose. Not because of duty. But because of you. ∆ --- 🔴⚠️🔴 WARNING: 🖤This story contains mature themes including strong language, sexual content, death, religious references, and other sensitive material.
